Thoughts from the Board - William F. “Bill” Garcia
Dear Members of the Weld County Bar Association: I have no time - I’m not a joiner - what’s in it for me - I have never been asked – my employer doesn’t pay my bar dues These are some of the answers that I received when speaking with attorneys about joining or increasing their involvement in the Weld County Bar Association. While spending some time away from private practice, I empathize with these concerns as barriers to participation. The initial reasons that led me to increase my activity in the Weld County Bar Association include: • Free lunch & learn CLEs and informational presentations • Social activities with members of the Bench and Bar • The annual Nuts and Bolts presentation-1 day, 8 CLE credits & held in Greeley Additionally, Weld County Legal Services provides regular updates on pro bono opportunities. Working in supportive groups to assist others provides additional motivation! The Weld County Bar Association collaborates with the Colorado Bar Association and other regional Bar Associations on projects to enhance the diversity of the bench and bar as well as supporting recruitment in areas outside of the Denver metro area. However, I likely would not have taken advantage of the opportunity to be involved, had I not spoken with a Bar Association Board member and been encouraged to participate. If the initial comments sound familiar, but you would like to be more involved, please contact a board member or attend an advertised event, CLE or the annual Nuts and Bolts CLE on December 2, 2022. If you are involved, feel free to tell your counterparts. People love to be invited to be involved and Weld County Bar activities are worthy and fulfilling. I look forward to seeing you at a Weld County Bar Association event.
